Royal Croquet Club, a fun summer food and entertainment festival, has returned to Melbourne for the second year but only for a short time, finishing up this Sunday 20 December.
Picking up where the Night Noodle Market left off, Royal Croquet Club has transformed the sunny area by the Yarra River at Birrarung Marr with grass and located a curated selection of Melbourne eateries (different selection to last year) plus two croquet pitches.
Food stalls this year are by Ruyi, Bluebonnet BBQ, Mamasita, Tokyo Tina and Gazi and I was invited along for a tasting.. The drink of choice has go to be a Pimms cup – otherwise Yalumba wines or Heineken beers are on offer.
Each restaurant has a selection of menu items, all hovering around the $10-$15 mark. You’ll probably eat two or three items so expect to pay around $40 for food. The highlight of my tastings and a must-try is Bluebonnet BBQ’s smoked pork belly with cornbread waffles, creamed corn, sour cream, porcini popcorn and coriander ($13).
Dessert is by my favourite gelateria, Carlton’s Pidapipo.
If you fancy some croquet then just grab a mallet and knock the ball through the rings!
Royal Croquet Club is Melbourne’s summer playground of music, performing arts, food and croquet, making it an all-ages party like no other!
